DESCRIPTION:\nyt is a community-driven Python package for analyzing and vi
sualizing complex spatial data. Since 2007\, the yt package has expanded f
rom supporting just a single astrophysical simulation data format to more
than three dozen formats across several domains\, including astronomy\, se
 ismology\, nuclear engineering\, molecular dynamics\, oceanography\, and s
atellite imaging.\nThis 4-day workshop will bring together people from all
levels of experience with yt. We will begin with at least a day of tutori
als for new users\, followed by time devoted to yt's extension packages wi
th opportunities for short presentations from participants. The final two
days of the meeting will focus on development\, beginning with activities
designed for users interested in contributing to yt or getting involved in
scientific software development. We will then move into breakout groups t
o work together on development goals. There will be opportunities for rese
archers with data not yet supported by yt to work with experienced develop
ers to implement yt support. A preliminary schedule of activities is below
. This will be updated following participant preferences.\n\nTuesday\, 15
 July\n\nintroductory and intermediate tutorials\n\n\nWednesday\, 16 July\n

activities and breakout sessions\nFollowing the morning session\, we will
relocate to the Royal Observatory on Blackford Hill (~15 minute walk) with
lunch in the observatory canteen. We will continue development activities
in the afternoon in the Higgs Centre for Innovation conference room at th
e observatory.\n\n\n\nThe workshop will be held in the Higgs Centre for Th
eoretical Physics in the James Clerk Maxwell Building at the University of
Edinburgh. There is no fee for registration\, but participation will be l
imited to 35 people. Lunch will be provided Tuesday through Thursday. Part
icipants will be required to arrange their own travel and accommodation. A
