This is the third edition of the "Beyond Lorentzian Geometry" workshops. The first and second were held in Edinburgh in October 2019 and February 2023, respectively, and they were a resounding success.
This meeting will be spread over three days: the first two days are devoted to non-lorentzian geometry/physics and a third day celebrating the 63rd birthday of José Figueroa-O'Farrill.
Background
It is by now well-established that various notions of non-Lorentzian geometry (such as Newton-Cartan and Carrollian geometries) are commonplace in various areas of high-energy physics and beyond. For example in General Relativity they appear as boundary geometries, on certain hypersurfaces inside a Lorentzian geometry and near singularities. In field theory they appear when one couples a non-Lorentz invariant theory to a curved background. They also appear when making approximations such as in the context of the post-Newtonian expansion in General Relativity or when approximating a field theory near some BPS bound. They finally also appear in String Theory for example as the T-dual description of a discrete light cone quantisation of a relativistic closed string, but also for example near BPS bounds in AdS/CFT, and in many other places and contexts.
In this workshop we would like to bring together researchers working on both mathematical and physical aspects of these upcoming exciting geometries.
