Venue information

The meetings take place in the old town campus, also referred to as central area, of the University.

Meeting rooms:

  • Monday 3-July: 40 George Square for the meetings
  • Monday evening: Appleton Tower for the reception 
  • Tuesday-Thursday: Appleton Tower for all meetings
  • Tuesday collaboration dinner: Playfair library

Please follow the campus maps (link here Edinburgh university interactive map) to see where they are. You can also refer to a downloadable map in the main indico page.  The best way to navigate around is to use applications such as google maps and baidu maps. 

Please follow this link for how to get there via air/rail/bus: link to University access. The central area is extremely busy you are strongly encouraged to use public transportation. 

  • Arriving from the Edinburgh airport:
    • There are frequent bus or tram service to the city centre. Tram runs until about 11pm. Bus such as Airlink 100, runs 24 hours. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the city centre for both options. It  costs about £7.50 for tram or £5 for bus for a single journey. 
    • By taxi this costs about £30 depending on time
  • Arriving by rail
    • The main rail station is called Edinburgh Waverley. From there it is about  15-20 minutes walk to the University centra area.

Going around in the city

  • Edinburgh central area is very well served by the Lothian bus, you can look up stops and plan your journey  via Edinburgh lothian bus webpage or their applications in your mobile. It costs £2 for a single journey. The best way to purchase is using contactless payment. Drive would accept cash, however no changes will be given.
  • Edinburgh black cabs are still a good option they tend to have good location knowledge. 
  • Uber serves in Edinburgh area as well. However be aware of the high price in popular times
