***Travel Scam alert!***

If you received emails from travellerpoint(dot)org (or another travel company), please be careful. The email asks about arrival and departure dates to Edinburgh and offers a hotel booking form where they ask for credit card details.

Please, ignore the emails and do not reply nor click on any link given by them. You can also block the domain on your email client.

Our official emails are all from this website’s domain “@ed.ac.uk” (usually, sopa.events@ed.ac.uk). Please avoid giving private information to external sources. The only official way to register for our workshops and events are advertised via this website (or indico) and we will get in touch directly if we book accommodation for you.

The conference will be held at 50 George Square which is located in the central area on the south side of the city centre, within easy walking distance of the city's main transport hubs. You can find the location of the venue using our campus maps Campus maps | The University of Edinburgh

Edinburgh has an international airport (EDI) which is about 12 km away from the city centre. There are Airlink express buses every 10 minutes (£8 return trip, £5.50 single, service 24/7) and a tram connection every 10 minutes (£9.50 return trip, service between 6am and 10pm) between the airport and the city centre. A taxi from the airport to the city centre should cost about £30.

Glasgow airport is around 1.5 hours away and has a number of useful connections.

Arrival by train

Edinburgh's main station is Waverley. It serves several train lines, connecting to most of the major UK cities. The fastest LNER trains take less than 4.5 hours between London and Edinburgh, which is a 630 km trip. Taxis are available at the station, while Lothian Buses from Waverley Station all go to the venue of the Conference. Bus drivers do not give change, so the exact fare of £2 must be paid when you board the bus. It is also possible to pay via the 'tap-tap-cap' system - a contactless payment system (on the buses) with daily fare capping, meaning if you use the same card/digital payment on different buses numerous times, it will automatically convert it to the lowest fare (switch to a daily pass for example). It is also possible to download the mobile ticket App (‘m-tickets’ – Apple, Android) or the Lothian Bus App (‘Bus & Tram’) to buy tickets.
